The race was on today! The campers frantically ran the last leg of our "Amazing Race" ,starting with a hunt for the first clue, and then dashed off to score goals in soccer, complete a chopstick challenge and match countries to their flags. Everyone was cheered on to the finish line showing great team spirit and sportsmanship. Recognized for their sportsmanship throughout the entire race were Tyler Bock, Jared Mullins, Mallie Royer and Ethan Farria.
We hope everyone had a fantastic time this summer and we hope to see you again next year!

Land of Ice and Fire
On Wednesday we completed our final detour of the race by traveling to Iceland. The racers became explorers in the tradition of the Vikings. After climbing into their ships they had to traverse a lagoon while avoiding treacherous icebergs. At the end of their journey they staked their claim on the new found land by planting their team flag.

While the explorers were on their journey other racers were busy creating Viking puppets and writing their names using runes which the Vikings believed possessed divine, magical powers. Lastly on their visit to the land of ice and fire, the racers made a volcano erupt with the help of a little baking soda and vinegar.

Snow Sled Visits Miriam School
Today the students were visited by the St. Louis Snow Cone's Snow Sled. The purpose of this visit was to highlight the company on KSDK's Show Me St. Louis and we were more than happy to accommodate them! We had a large selection of flavors to choose from, making the decision a hard one for some. The campers are looking forward to seeing themselves on the show tomorrow afternoon.

Tropical Temperatures!

Campers started the week with a trip to the St. Louis Zoo. Each class spread out in search of animals from around the world. Although the temperature felt like we were in the tropics, we saw animals from many different habitats. Some of us took refuge from the heat to enjoy an encounter with the penguins in their chilly home.

Brazil Bound!
This afternoon we headed to Brazil! The children enjoyed a soccer match and had a chance to color a team flag. Next the students used their creative talents to make a "Carnival" mask, glitter and feathers included! They wrapped up this leg of the race with a sweet treat and the awarding of team points.
The Land Down Under
On Tuesday the racers headed for the "Land Down Under." In the tradition of the Australian Moomba Festival we made crowns for our kings and queens and held boat races in the pool. The students also had a chance to decorate a boomerang and have a kangaroo race. We're looking forward to wrapping up the week with a trip to Brazil!

Setting Sail for the Caribbean
Session 2 has started off with a bang! Literally. On Monday afternoon, our guest was African percussionist, Kunama Mtendaji. He presented a mixture of storytelling, music and dance of West Africa and the Caribbean. The children learned a few new words, joined in on several African chants and had a chance to strut their stuff as they learned a few steps of the Samba.
